
Eganville’s Melissa Bishop has won the silver medal at the World Track and Field Championships in Beijing, China.
The 26-year-old posted a time of 1:58.12 early Saturday morning to win Canada’s first-ever medal in the women’s 800 metres. She finished .09 seconds behind the winner, Marina Arzamasova of Belarus.
After setting a personal best and a Canadian record in the semifinals, Bishop added to her amazing accomplishments this season, with a silver at Worlds, adding to her Pan-Am Games gold.
“It’s really a dream come true,” Bishop said. “Our training has been really consistent over the last few years. This year, we’ve really worked on a few things and I’ve been waiting for the right race.
“I’m really happy that it came here at the [world] championships.”
