With heavy rains in the forecast, more and more Valley residents are taking precautions to protect their homes and cottages from flooding.

The Ottawa and Madawaska rivers are already at levels that have not been seen in decades, and with the rain today and tomorrow, the Ottawa could rise another 10 inches or more.

Renfrew County Warden Jennifer Murphy said the flooding areas in the region continue to be monitored, and added that if you need sandbags or have problems with your roads, to contact your municipal office or the County.

Residents of low-lying areas prone to flooding along the Ottawa River are advised to monitor river conditions closely by consulting the daily update of river conditions by clicking here.

Most municipalities have sand and bags available, including two on the Ottawa River — Isle-Aux-Allumettes and Arnprior — where more homes are being affected with each passing day.

Attached are press releases from those two municipalities.
