Radiothon 2017 a huge success on a number of levels

The people of the Ottawa Valley never cease to amaze us here at Valley Heritage Radio, as their support for the station continues to overwhelm us. In a good way.

Our recent week-long Radiothon was once again a resounding success, on so many levels.

Financially the fundraiser brought in more than $87,000 in donations and memberships, but each year Radiothon does more than raise money. It raises awareness of the station. It raises our profile. And it raises our spirits and our hearts, as our listeners and supporters show us we are taking the radio station in a direction they appreciate.

During the week the phones were ringing with people making donations. But at the same time, we went out into the communities we serve to meet and greet our listeners and advertisers. We made stops in Shawville, Almonte, Braeside, Cobden, Eganville, Arnprior and Pembroke. And at each stop, we spoke with people who welcome our station into their lives on a daily basis. They offered not only financial support, but moral support and vital feedback. Some popped by just to say “G’day” and meet our staff, volunteers and on-air personalities. For many of us, those visits are the highlights of our week.

We also hosted three live music events at the station, live on the Thomas Cavanagh Stage. We hosted an Old Time Rock ‘n’ Roll Nite, a Fiddle & Step Night, and a Country Night. Each concert was standing room only as some of the most talented artists in the Ottawa Valley entertained those in attendance, and listeners not only around the region, but around the globe. We heard from listeners in Alberta, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Florida and New York State who were enjoying the special evenings.

We started the week with a Pancake Breakfast, serving almost 200 people who spent the morning listening to wonderful live Valley music. And we wrapped up the week with our annual RoundUp Dance, which was sold out early. More than 400 people spent the afternoon enjoying the music and filling the dance floor as we celebrated another hugely successful Radiothon. We weren’t celebrating how many dollars were on the tote board, but rather how many people came together in seven days to prove once again that Valley Heritage Radio plays an important role in the lives of a number of folks in the Ottawa Valley and beyond.

That is why we are here. For you, the listeners. And advertisers. And volunteers. And local musicians. And staff. And supporters. Without you, there wouldn’t be a Valley Heritage Radio.

To everyone who donated their time and talents to Radiothon 2017, I want to personally thank you one and all. We are a team. This is YOUR radio station. Your support allows us to do what we do. After all, we do it for you.
