  • Bill Craig

OUR DJs < Back Bill Craig I got to know the Lord Jesus Christ late in life. I found I couldn’t keep this treasure a secret: how beautiful it is to know Jesus Christ personally. I am not a preacher; I refer to myself as a reacher; reaching out to people, giving them good news and hope. As I was saved through listening to radio it only seems natural to give back some of the blessing I have received. I am also thankful to Valley Heritage Radio for providing their air time every week where I get to share Jesus with you, dear listener friend. The good Lord has given me a gift to select songs for the program that dove-tail the stories and scriptures together. In these uncertain times we live in we certainly need encouragement; and not only encouragement, but we need to be challenged. I find the challenge is as much for me as it is for you, dear listener friend. I live on an old farm, near Cobden with my wife Heather. We call our farm HIA Farm, the “HIA” stands for Hope Is Alive in the person of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. HIA Farm has a mini-pioneer village complete with mini-horses, Barnabas and Joseph. Don’t hesitate to contact me at sundaypraise@aol.com regarding Sunday Praise on Valley Heritage Radio. Program Sunday Praise Sunday Praise is a program designed to encourage the listener through music that praises our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; and through Scripture that edifies and lifts up, along with short stories and illustrations that deliver the point home. The point being that Jesus Christ is the only way, truth and life (John 14:6); Yes, there is always a message for the unsaved: we must repent and have that new birth. We need to be born again (John 3:3). The program gives hope to all who listen and shows the way of eternal life in heaven. You can hear Sunday Praise with Bill Craig every Sunday from 11 a.m. till noon on Valley Heritage Radio. Previous Next

  • Andrew Cartwright

OUR DJs < Back Andrew Cartwright I'm very fortunate to be one of the few people who can say "I love my job." Radio has always been a part of my life. Whether it was sitting in the kitchen as a toddler, watching my mom sing along to Neil Diamond, or my father enjoying big band music. I loved the emotion it could elicit from people. I was fascinated how a certain announcer or song could make someone focus completely on this little box emitting sounds. I never thought I'd have a career in the industry though, because I hadn't the faintest idea of how to get the ball rolling. Prior to radio I worked in a warehouse, where I'd make announcements over the intercom. Birthdays, well wishes, that kind of thing. I figured that would be as close as I'd ever get to hearing myself in a broadcasting capacity. It's funny how life works because in the same week, two people came up to me and said I should work for a radio station. As fate would have it, an ad in the paper for a radio school in Montreal popped up that same week. It caught my attention, and the rest is history. I've since worked at multi-cultural stations, news stations and on the reserve in Kahnawake. In 2011 I made a decision that would change my life forever. I decided to move away from home (out of province in fact) to work for Valley Heritage Radio. It’s been the best decision I've ever made. Since then my family has joined me up here and we had our first child. Little Man, as I call him. I love this area. The people are inspirational in the way they care about their neighborus and the community. I couldn't ask for a better place to now call home. Join me Monday through Friday from 6 to 11 a.m. and you’ll hear "Headlines making Headlines" at 8:40, my "Joke of the Day" at 7:07, "Birthdays, Anniversaries and New Arrivals" at 7:20 and 8:20 and our "Animal of the Week" Thursday's at 9:40. P.S. Apologies for the "Dad" jokes that cause eye rolls and groans at 7:07 every morning Program The Morning Show Catch Andrew Cartwright on the Morning Show Monday to Friday from 6 to 11:30 a.m. for great tunes, bad jokes, and that laugh. Ohhh, that laugh. Watch for his regular features including hear "Headlines making Headlines" at 8:40, his "Joke of the Day" at 7:07, "Birthdays, Anniversaries and New Arrivals" at 7:20 and 8:20 and our "Animal of the Week" Thursdays at 9:40. And did we mention that Andrew is a champion chili chef? And he has a brown belt? Did you know he survived a run-in with a women’s roller derby team? And almost killed Dai Bassett with a jellybean? See … we told you … don’t miss the Morning Show. Previous Next

  • L'il Mama Live

< Back L'il Mama Live L'il Mama Monday 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm Music should really make you feel. When I listen to something, I want to feel what the artist(s) is feeling. Same as when I perform, I want the crowd to feel what I am feeling. Shivers and goosebumps are a good indication of a performance well done. A bob of the head or a tap of the foot is a good sign too. That’s the feeling I’m creating in the studio. A heavy, groovy vibe transmitting from 98.7 FM radio into your space. If you can dig it, come along for a ride with me, Lil’ Mama on my new radio show, Lil’ Mama Live, Monday nights from 8-10pm on Valley Heritage Radio, 98.7 FM. Previous Next

  • Pat Watters

OUR DJs < Back Pat Watters Pat Watters was born in Bourlamaque Quebec. He has “been around” living in Val’Dor, Malartic, Barview, Malartic Gold Fields, Cornwall, Carp, Toronto, Fort McPherson NWT, Pembroke and in Douglas where he now resides. He graduated from York University and taught for 30 years finishing his career at St. Joseph High School in Renfrew. He is married, has six children and three grandchildren. He enjoys all types of music. He does however, have a preference for the blues. It was while living in Toronto that he developed a keen interest in the blues playing in bands and taking in as many live shows as he was able to. He had the opportunity to see several blues legends as they toured through southern Ontario. Pat plays bass guitar for a local hobby band called Mixed Nuts, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a bigger Toronto Maple Leafs fan in the Valley. Got the Blues Pat has been a part of Valley Heritage radio since the beginning. His show Got the Blues began a month after the station went on the air and continues every Thursday evening at eight o’clock right after the bingo. Got the Blues is a two-hour weekly show which provides you the opportunity to listen and enjoy the blues. If you want to be more informed and exposed to this genre of music so that you can appreciate the blues, then this is the place to be! Blues has been portrayed as mournful and slow but as you listen to Got the Blues you will discover it is far more energetic and it rocks. It has been said, “The blues had a baby and they named it Rock ‘n Roll”! There are plenty of blues styles and you will hear a great variety on Pat’s show. Traditional to contemporary artists are played regularly and Got the Blues is proud to feature many of our Canadian Blues artists. Previous Next

  • Volunteer | Valley Heritage Radio | Renfrew Ontario

Volunteer with VHR! Volunteers are the backbone of Valley Heritage Radio as they are involved in every aspect of the behind-the-scenes of radio. From the Board of Directors, to office staff, to fundraisers, volunteers help to provide the glue that holds our station together. There are many reasons why people volunteer but most volunteers will tell you that they feel that they benefit just as much from their experiences as do the people they serve. If you have some time to give as a volunteer, why not give us a call (613-432-9873) and start the application process today. Fill out form and submit if you are interested in volunteering with us: Download Volunteer Form Then open it in Adobe Reader, fill it out and on the top bar of Adobe Reader is an email link. Please email you application to info@valleyheritageradio.ca . Have questions about our station? We'd love to hear from you! CONTACT US in memoriam - Jim Long Each year in conjunction with our annual Radiothon, the station wraps up the fundraiser with the Jim Long Memorial Round-Up Dance. It’s named after Jim Long – a person who left his thumbprint not only on Valley Heritage Radio, but also on the country music scene across the Ottawa Valley. Jim left this world August 11, 2018, but his memory lives on at VHR. He began as a volunteer and was a member of the VHR Board of Directors. That grew into a full-time job as Events and Volunteer Co-ordinator, a fill-in DJ, and the station’s radio bingo caller. But Jim was more than that to us here at the station. He was a big brother ... a father ... a friend ... a confidant ... a resource ... and an ambassador. He was a fountain of information about country music ... and was also quick to share a story about life. And even quicker to share a laugh and a smile. Jim epitomized what volunteering at VHR is all about, as he was the first to put his hand up to work at an event BEFORE he was an employee. And he did the same when he was on the payroll. In addition to his 40-hour a week job with the radio station, he would often volunteer dozens more hours a week to represent VHR in the community. In addition to his volunteer work at VHR, he was also a long-time volunteer with the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame, including several terms as President. He gave of his time. And his skill. And his passion. And asked for very little in return. Jim is missed. But will long be remembered for the wonderful man he was and the legacy of stories he told, and stories he left us with. All with one common denominator. They all brought a smile to our faces, and to his. And they will for years to come. Rest in Peace Jim. You're gone, but not forgotten.
