  • Pembroke, ON: October is Child Abuse Prevention Month which is recognized publicly as the Purple Ribbon Campaign. Family Children Services of Renfrew County (FCS), The Phoenix Centre for Children and Families, and Algonquin College Waterfront Campus have combined efforts to launch this annual awareness event to remind the community that we all have a role to play in protecting our local children from abuse and neglect.
    The campaign’s objective is to encourage the public to speak up for kids and help raise awareness about the importance of calling Children’s Aid if you are concerned about the safety and well-being of a child or youth. To kick off the campaign, the Purple Ribbon Campaign Committee has organized 2 free official launch events on September 30th. Ry-Js in the Pembroke Mall will be open for families to enjoy crafts, treats, and bouncing and an early showing of the movie Trolls at the O’Brien Theatre in Renfrew is also available. Various smaller events are organized throughout the month which can be viewed in detail by following the campaign’s Facebook Page @purpleribboncampaignRC. Various schools throughout the County will be participating in at-school activities and the public is encouraged to participate by wearing purple on October 24th, 2017 the official Dress Purple Day.
    Arijana Haramincic, Executive Director of Family and Children’s Services states that, “We all have a role to play in ensuring that our most vulnerable, our children, are safe, well looked after and given an opportunity to build healthy and happy lives.”
