In Jr A hockey, the Pembroke Lumber Kings won a home-and-home weekend series with the Smiths Falls Bears, winning 2-0 on Friday in Smiths Falls and 5-4 in overtime last night at the PMC.
Anthony Nellis had the game-winner Sunday, scoring just under two minutes into the extra period. On Friday, Felix Chamberland and Nellis each scored, while Jordan Piccolino stopped 31 shots and earned the shutout.
Pembroke now has 58 points and sits second in the Yzerman Division, and third overall in the CCHL.
The first-place Carleton Place Canadians had one game on the weekend and started 2015 on a winning note. The Canadians downed Gloucester 3-1 with goals from Stephen Baylis, Devin Campbell and Connor Merkley. Goalie Guiallume Therrien earned the win, stopping 25 shots.
SHAWVILLE OFFENCE IN HIGH GEAR
In Jr B hockey, Shawville, Arnprior, and first-place Renfrew, all had wins on the weekend.
The Pontiacs narrowly missed scoring 10 goals for the third straight game as Shawville downed Perth 9-2. Mathew Labrosse had a hat-trick to lead the Pontiacs who now sit in third place in the Valley Division, one point up on Arnprior.
The Packers came up with a big effort against second-place Stittsville on Friday, with a 6-4 win, led by Casey Doner’s hat-trick.
And league-leading Renfrew beat Almonte 7-4 on Saturday with Scott Conroy scoring a hat-trick and Lucas Gonu scoring twice for the Timberwolves.
