When a roof was built to cover the outdoor rink in Calabogie, the idea was to keep the elements off the ice so even with heavy snow falling, skating and shinny could continue.

But the rink has been closed for the remainder of the season because of structural concerns and according to a press release from the Township of Greater Madawaska, the municipality is working with the contractor to find a solution.

The roof was put up last year after a lengthy fundraising campaign by the community and a loan from the Township.

The total cost of the project was in the neighbourhood of a half-million dollars.
