The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Marine Unit was called to rescue a canoeist on the Ottawa River near Petawawa on Tuesday afternoon.
Police received the emergency call from the Jubilee Lodge that a man in a canoe had yet to return, and with a thunderstorm rolling through the area, there was cause for concern.
The man was located near King Edward Island near the Petawawa Point, and due to the heavy rain the canoe was beginning to fill with water.
The man was brought aboard the police boat and taken safely to shore. He was uninjured.
The OPP want to remind boaters that weather conditions can change quickly, and to always check the forecast before venturing onto the water.
