2 C elbow macaroni
2 C milk
3 tbsp. flour
3 tbsp. soft butter
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. white pepper
2 C shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Buttered bread crumbs
Cook the macaroni and drain. Scald the milk in a double boiler. Stir in the flour and butter stirring until smooth. Cook, stirring until thickened. Add the seasonings and cheese and stir until the cheese is melted. Pour over the macaroni and place in a greased casserole. Sprinkle with the buttered bread crumbs and bake at 375°F until browned and bubbly (about 15 minutes.
