3 1/2 lb lean brisket of beef
8 1/2 oz can unsalted tomatoes
1 small bay leaf
2 tsp instant onion powder
1/2 tsp coarsely ground black pepper
1/4 tsp instanct minced garlic
Place meat in Dutch oven or heavy saucrepan. In preheated 450F oven, brown meat for 10 minutes on each side. Add 1 cup of water and remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer for 3 hours or until tender, turning meat occasionally. Remove gravy from Dutch oven and chill in small bowl until fat forms a hard layer on top. Remove fat and discard. Pour the gravy over the meat and reheat until hot. Slice, serve and enjoy.
