In high school sports, Petawawa’s Valour School are Ontario senior boys’ cross-country champs after winning the OFSAA (off-sa) title Saturday at the University of Waterloo.
Adam Paquette was the top Valour runner, finishing in 14th place. Teammates Max Serviss, Sam Serviss, Brandon Royce and Colin Powell also had solid results to clinch the win.
Valour’s midget girls’ team also had a superb day on the course, finishing 10th overall.
In high school basketball today, the senior and junior girls’ semi-finals are being played this afternoon. In senior Arnprior hosts St. Joe’s, and Opeongo is at RCI. In junior, Valour is in Arnprior to face the Redmen, while St. Joe’s hosts Opeongo.
JR A HOCKEY
In Jr A hockey the Pembroke Lumber Kings split their weekend games, winning 5-3 in Brockville, and losing 6-3 at home to Smiths Falls. Anthony Nellis and Alexandre Boivin each had five points for Pembroke in the two games to lead the offence. Goalie Connor Hughes saw action in both games for the Lumber Kings, who hold on to second spot in the Yzerman Division with 28 points, six back of Ottawa.
Still with Jr A hockey, the Carleton Place Canadians continue to lead the CCHL thanks to two wins on the weekend — a 3-1 victory in Cornwall and a 3-1 win over Hawkesbury at home. Andy Sturtz had three goals and five points in the two games to lead the Canadians who have only lost four times in 26 games this year.
