The completion of Highway 17 four-laning from Campbell Drive in Arnprior to Scheel Drive in McNab-Braeside is on schedule, and is expected to be completed by this fall.
But a timeline for expansion of the highway past that point, and up the Ottawa Valley, isn’t so clear.
The county’s Highway 17 Extension Advisory Committee met January 11, and heard from Kathryn Moore, the MTO’s director for Eastern Ontario.
The Pembroke Observer is reporting that Moore said the Ministry is negotiating with property owners for the next phase of four-laning, a 22.5-kilometre stretch from Scheel Drive to just west of Bruce Street in Renfrew. But there is no timetable in place at this point.
In fact, the Province has no funding planned for Highway 17 beyond this year, and Moore says she has not heard about any help coming from the federal level.
The committee will continue to lobby the Provincial Liberals, and have a new business case plan for expanding the highway to Renfrew and beyond.
