The Municipality of Mississippi Mills would like to inform residents and visitors that the Almonte Riverwalk from the Almonte Old Town Hall to The Barley Mow is temporarily closed. Due to the construction taking place on the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail Lanark County has taken necessary safety precautions. This portion of the Riverwalk will remain closed until the trail construction is complete. For further information please contact the Municipality at 613-256-2064.
Still with the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail Lanark County council says the link between Pakenham and Arnprior has been completed. Surfacing on the remaining trail is being completed and gates are expected to be installed in time for the grand opening of the trail planned for October 5th in Carleton Place. Signage and street signs have been installed across the trail including signage on gates identifying trail rules and way-finding signs.
The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP are looking for any information from the public that can help them find out who is responsible for a break and enter this week … during which a number of tools and an outboard motor were stolen. Police responded to the call on the morning of September 24th at DJL Enterprises on Paul Martin Drive in Pembroke. They believe the place was hit sometime between the afternoon of the 23rd and the morning of the 24th. Among the items stolen are an assortment of Dewalt, Makita and Milwaukee cordless power tools … a Campbell-Hausfeld air compressor … a Wacker-Neusen 2500-watt generator … a Paslode nailer … a Garmin fish finder and a 9.9-horsepower Johnson outboard motor. If you have information, you are asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated seven domestic disputes during the past week but no charges were laid. AND … If you live in Quyon, be advised there is a public meeting set for Sunday afternoon as the Municipality of Pontiac is looking for the community’s input for the development of the Quyon recreational park. Residents of all ages are invited to the gymnasium at Onslow Elementary School … on Sunday, September 30 … at 1 p.m. If you are unable to attend, but would still like to voice your opinion you are encouraged to go online and fill out a short survey. AND IN SPORTS …
A champion will be crowned in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League this weekend. The Quyon Flyers and Kars Aces will face off for the title in Manotick on Sunday, September 30 with first pitch set to be thrown at 2 o’clock. With the “Final Four” format this is a one-game, winner-take-all set-up. Kars has not lost in the playoffs yet, while Quyon is the regular season champion.
On the ice in the CCHL this weekend, two rivals meet tonight and it also happens to be a match-up of two of the top teams in the early part of the season. The Pembroke Lumber Kings are on the road tonight in Carleton Place … to face the Canadians. Puck drop is set for 7:45. And both are back in action Sunday as Carleton Place hosts Kemptville at 3 o’clock and Kanata is in Pembroke at 7 o’clock.
AND … in the CCHL-2 … it’s also a rivalry game tonight as the Arnprior Packers are at Ma-te-Way to face the Timberwolves. That one gets underway at 8 o’clock. Also tonight, the Whitewater Kings are in Perth for a 7:30 start. On Saturday, Whitewater hosts Carleton Place and Arnprior is in Athens. Both of those games start at 7:30. And on Sunday afternoon, Renfrew is in Embrun for a 1:30 puck drop.
