The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP is looking for the public’s help in a theft investigation … which has been going on since mid-August. At that time … a wallet containing credit cards was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in Laurentian Valley Township. On August 17th … just before 10 p.m. … there was an attempt to use the stolen credit cards at a bank machine in Whitewater Region. Police have obtained photos of two persons of interest in this case … hoping a member of the public will recognize one …  or both. If you do have any information on this case … you’re asked to call the OPP … or Crime Stoppers.h were held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The Renfrew OPP are looking for whoever is responsible for a break, enter and theft in town on October 3rd. Around 5:30 p.m. … officers were called to a B&E in the area of Fortington Street … after an unknown suspect entered a residence and stole multiple items … including jewellery. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Renfrew OPP.

One person has been charged following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Laurentian Valley Township yesterday … which resulted in the highway being closed for an hour … and one person being taken to hospital. On October 10th … just after 10 a.m. … Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers were called to a construction zone on Highway 17 between Highway 41 and B Line Road … to investigate a collision between an eastbound pickup truck and a passenger vehicle. The truck had stopped … and was rear-ended. The two people in the truck weren’t hurt … while the driver of the passenger vehicle was taken to hospital by paramedics. The injuries weren’t serious … and that person is facing a charge of Careless Driving.

AND … The OPP will be out in full force this Thanksgiving Long Weekend … and they are asking that people slow down … and drive safely. Police are reporting that so far this year … 216 fatal motor vehicle collisions have claimed the lives of 239 people … and many of those deaths were preventable. The OPP say speed is the leading factor in driving deaths … with lack of seatbelt use a close second. Distracted driving … and alcohol or drugs round out the Big Four Factors. And this long weekend means some of the heaviest traffic volumes of the year on OPP-patrolled roads … so police are asking people to drive sober … stay focused … and be patient. This will help to ensure everyone has a safe holiday weekend.

AND IN SPORTS …

It’s a busy weekend on the ice in the CCHL … as both local teams are in action tonight. The Pembroke Lumber Kings are on the road in Brockville to take on the Braves … while the Carleton Place Canadians travel down Highway 15 to face the Smiths Falls Bears. Both games go at 7:30. On Sunday … Brockville is in Carleton Place at 3 o’clock … and Pembroke hosts Kemptville at the PMC at 7 o’clock. And there’s a special Thanksgiving Monday game … as Carleton Place hosts Pembroke at the Neelin Street Arena. Puck drop on the holiday Monday is 2 o’clock.

AND … there’s also a full slate of games in the CCHL-2 this weekend. Tonight … Arnprior hosts Carleton Place at the Nick Smith Centre … as a Thanksgiving Food Bank Fundraiser. Non-perishable food items will be collected … and all money from the 50-50 and raffle will be donated to the Arnprior & District Food Bank. Puck drop in this one is 7:30. On Saturday … Arnprior is in Cobden to face the Whitewater Kings … and the Renfrew Timberwolves host Athens. Both of those games start at 7:30. And on Thanksgiving Sunday … Whitewater is on the road in Embrun for a 1:30 puck drop.
