Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers were out in full force last week looking for drivers who weren’t properly buckled up and 83 people were charged during the Fall Seatbelt Campaign. Officers from the Killaloe detachment also took part in the initiative and laid 20 seatbelt charges. Police say that road safety remains a priority … and the number of motorists who weren’t buckling up during the campaign is concerning. The OPP add that even though the campaign is over … officers remain committed to traffic safety year round and buckling up greatly reduces your risk of injury and death in collisions.

The Renfrew OPP are looking for any information that helps them find whoever is responsible for a recent break, enter and theft in Cobden in which $20,000 in construction tools were stolen. Sometime last weekend, the building at 45 Main Street was broken into. The theft was discovered just before 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 7th. A side door to the building had been kicked in. The theft happened sometime between 4 o’clock on Friday, October 5th and Sunday morning. Anyone with information is asked to call the OPP or Crime Stoppers.

And … cash or a classic car? What would you choose if you could drive away in a 1967 Pontiac Firebird convertible or take $30,000 in cash. Well … that’s a decision that Jordan Waito of Kanata has to make after he won the Car or Cash for Health Care raffle a fundraiser for the Almonte General Hospital Fairview Manor Foundation … and the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation. Waito’s winning ticket was drawn last Friday at the Almonte Civitan Hall … but he’s yet to decide which way he’ll go. Almost 6,500 tickets were sold for the lottery that puts funding towards the purchase of urgently needed equipment.

The national Jr A rankings are in for this week … and the Carleton Place Canadians remain just inside the top-20.  Last week … the Canadians sat at #20 … and this week … thanks to two wins, they’ve jumped to #19.  The only other CCHL team in the rankings is the Hawkesbury Hawks … who climb to #13 … up two spots from last week.

There’s one game on the CCHL-2 schedule tonight as the Whitewater Kings are on the road in Brockville. Puck drop is at 7:45.
