On November 11, at the going down of the sun communities across Canada will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War with the ringing of 100 bells. The ringing of bells emulates the moment in 1918 when church bells across Europe tolled as four years of war had come to an end. At the request of the Arnprior Legion, the Town of Arnprior will take part in the “Bells of Peace” occurring across Canada on Sunday. The bell at the Arnprior and District Museum will ring 100 times with 5-second intervals between tolls at the setting of the sun on the 11th of November around 6 p.m. You are asked that when you hear the bells toll on November 11th, please take a moment to pause and remember all those who served and sacrificed.
Sunday marks Remembrance Day and Valley Heritage Radio will be broadcasting the ceremony from the Renfrew Cenotaph live, beginning at 10:45. If you’re unable to attend a November 11th service in person we’re hoping you can tune in for the ceremony as we pay tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice serving their country and those who have served and continue to serve today, so that we may enjoy the freedom we have here in Canada. Lest we forget.
