Lanark County OPP are looking for your help to identify the person or persons responsible for an act of mischief at the Almonte Presbyterian Church. Sometime on Wednesday, Oct. 18th or Thursday, Oct. 19th – a derogatory term was spray painted on the side of the church building. If you have information on this crime you are asked to call Crime Stoppers toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS. All calls are confidential, anonymous, and are not taped. Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest.

With cold and flu season upon us the Renfrew County & District Health Unit has started their annual flu shot clinics with four already in the books. Next week there will be a Tuesday clinic in Cobden at the Legion from 3 to 6 p.m. and another on Wednesday in Eganville at Grace Lutheran Church. That one also runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Clinics will continue around the Valley throughout the month. Three men from Eganville have been fined a total of $1,380 for fishing offences. After fishing on Lake Clear on September 22nd the men were inspected by a conservation officer. He found they had caught and kept seven walleye that were each smaller than the allowed size limit of 50 centimetres. The case was heard in Pembroke court on October 23rd by Justice of the Peace Clayton McKechnie who fined each man $460.

If you are a blood donor and want to give the Gift of Life you can do so today at a blood donor clinic in Carleton Place. If you are interested in rolling up your sleeve and making a donation then pop by the Carleton Place Arena from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.  And there are also three clinics set up in the area for next week. On Monday, November 6th, you can donate in Eganville at Legion between 3 and 7 p.m. On Wednesday the 8th a clinic is set for the Nick Smith Centre in Arnprior from 1:30 to 4 and again from 5 to 7:30. Then on November 9th you can make a donation in Almonte at the Civitan Club from 3 to 7 o’clock. Drop-ins are always accepted  but you are encouraged to make an appointment by visiting

This is the weekend you’ll be treated to an extra hour of sleep. Daylight Saving Time officially ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday November 5th, when we’ll turn back the clock one hour. While we’ll have an extra hour of sleep before waking up Sunday morning it also means your drive home from work on Monday will be darker as the sunset is expected to be around 4:45 p.m. It’s also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Daylight Saving Time will return on Sunday, March 11, 2018 when we’ll switch our clocks ahead an hour.


If you’re a high school football fan then Beckwith Field is the place to be Saturday as two old rivals meet up in both the junior and senior Lanark-Renfrew Football League championship games. Arnprior and Almonte will lock horns in the junior game at 12:30 and in the senior title game it will also be a battle of the ADHS’s as the Rapids and Thunderbolts will collide at 2:30.

In high school basketball, the RCI senior girls beat Opeongo 56-42 in the league semi-final on Thursday and are off to the league finals for the 4th consecutive year. Maggie Scott continued her hot pace scoring a career-high 25 points.  Sydney Smart had another strong game with 17 points. But Renfrew doesn’t know who’ll they face yet as the other semi-final was postponed until Monday. RCI will face the winner of the St. Joe’s and Arnprior match-up.

In the CCHL this weekend the Pembroke Lumber Kings are on the road tonight as they head to Smiths Falls to face the Bears. On Sunday, Brockville will come to town. Puck drop in that one is 7 o’clock at the PMC. And league-leading Carleton Place also has two games as they’re in Rockland tonight but are home Sunday afternoon to host Kemptville. That one goes at 3 o’clock.

The Arnprior Packers have a road game tonight as they’re in Westport. But they’re back home Sunday to face Alexandria. Puck drop at the Nick Smith Centre on Sunday is 7:30. And the Whitewater Kings play a pair this weekend hosting Char-Lan Saturday night at 7 o’clock before heading on the road Sunday to play the Ottawa Canadians.
