The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP’s Crime Unit is investigating a break, enter and assault in Pembroke and are also looking for the public’s help in finding out who is responsible. Around 6:30 in the morning on November 25th, three unknown males forced their way into a home on First Avenue and physically assaulted the lone female resident. She sustained minor injuries. All three suspects fled the residence on foot. All had the hoods of their sweatshirts drawn tight around their faces. The OPP’s Forensic Identification Services is assisting with the investigation. The incident is not considered a random act at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Crime Unit of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP … or call Crime Stoppers.

OPP officers in Carleton Place arrested a man and seized a quantity of drugs after executing a search warrant. On November 22nd, police entered a Morphy Street home and found cocaine and prescription pills. As result, a 42-year-old Carleton Place man has been arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for trafficking and possession of a Schedule 3 substance for the purpose of trafficking. He was released … and his court date has been set for December 17th in Perth.

Hunters and anglers across Ontario now have a better way to get their Outdoors Card … along with their hunting and fishing licences … thanks to a new licensing service. According to Natural Resources and Forestry Minister John Yakabuksi, the new system makes it easier to buy hunting and fishing licences and is easy to use … with a new mobile feature and a single Outdoors Card. It can be accessed online at huntandfishontario.com and according to Yakabuski, the idea is for people to spend less time with red tape, and more time on the lake or in the woods. AND … The national Jr A rankings are in for this week … and a CCHL team is the #6 ranked squad in the nation … with the Brockville Braves continuing to hold on to that spot. The Carleton Place Canadians are also holding steady in the national top-20 … sitting at #13. And one other CCHL team just narrowly misses the list … as the Hawkesbury Hawks slipped from #16 last week … to earning an Honourable Mention this week. This weekend … the Hawks and the Canadians are set to meet in Hawkesbury … on Friday at 7:30 … and then the Hawks are in Pembroke to take on the Lumber Kings Sunday night at 7.
