An advanced care paramedic program will be coming to Lanark County. At the County Council meeting held November 22nd councillors approved a gradual implementation of the program over a period of five to 10 years. There are three designations in Ontario for paramedics – primary care, advanced care and critical care. Local advanced care paramedics would have the additional training to transport acutely ill patients to hospitals in Ottawa and Kingston. Information was presented saying most county paramedics are in favour of advanced care service … but wouldn’t be volunteering for the program unless they receive some help to pay for the training … which costs between $52,000 and $59,000 for each service member. Lanark County Paramedic Service will aim to have half of its paramedics certified as advance care paramedics within the next five years.

What started out as a fun night for four young people in Renfrew ended up being memorable  but for the wrong reasons. A Renfrew OPP officer who was patrolling the parking lots at Mat-te-way Park spotted two cars parked in a secluded corner. When he approached he found open liquor , empty beer cans  full beer cans , and drug paraphernalia. One 17-year-old youth claimed ownership of all items and was charged with being under 19 and having alcohol. The other three youths were issued warnings. The parents of all four were contacted and were asked to come and pick up their children.

Police are offering some straight forward advice to drivers: slow down. The OPP recently charged two drivers in separate incidents for stunt driving. The first was a 25-year-old Whitewater Region man who was clocked going more than 50 km/h above the posted speed limit on Highway 17 near Rox Siding Road. The second incident was on Highway 60 near Plaunt Road  when an officer clocked a 17-year-old male from Greely doing more than 50 above the limit. Both were summoned to Renfrew Court to face the charges … and each had their vehicle impounded … and licence suspended for 7 days.

On the ice last night the CCHL-leading Carleton Place Canadians were in Nepean to face the Raiders and came away with a 1-0 win. Jeremie Forget stopped everything fired his way  and picked up the shutout for the Canadians … while Liam Souliere was solid in the Raiders net allowing only one goal in taking the loss. Sam Allison scored the game’s only goal just over 6 minutes into the third period … for what proved to be the game winner.

Two local teams are in action tonight in the CCHL-2  as the Renfrew Timberwolves are in Athens to take on the Aeros and the Arnprior Packers are on the road in Casselman. Both of these games go at 7:30.
