Following a recount of the ballots cast in the October 22nd municipal election, there is a change in who will be sitting around the council table in North Algona Wilberforce. After the election, incumbent councillor Mervin Berndt appeared to have lost his seat losing by 15 votes to Kevin Clarke. At a recent council meeting … Berndt asked for a recount and it was approved. This past week, the ballots were recounted by officials in neighbouring Bonnechere Valley Township and the final tally showed Berndt winning the fourth and final council seat by 14 votes over Clarke.

Police are looking for the public’s help in finding whoever is responsible for a break, enter and theft from a cargo trailer in North Algona Wilberforce. Just before 8 a.m. on Monday, November 12th, the Killaloe OPP were called to Crooked Rapids Road where the trailer was parked. Officers report that numerous tools and generators were stolen sometime over the weekend. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Killaloe OPP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Canadian Blood Services says there is a critical need for donations and every 60 seconds, someone in Canada needs blood. So if you’re interested in rolling up your sleeve and giving the Gift of Life … there are two opportunities around the area this week. The first blood donor clinic is tomorrow at Garrison Petawawa … from 1 to 4 … and again from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Then on Thursday, there is a clinic at the Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew … where you have a chance to donate from 1 to 7 p.m. Drop-ins are always accepted but you are encouraged to make an appointment by visiting … or 1-888-2-DONATE.

the Renfrew County & District Health Unit free flu shot clinics around the region continue this week. Today, you can get your shot at Grace Lutheran Church in Eganville from 3 to 6 p.m. … then tomorrow … there’s a clinic at the Legion in Petawawa. You can get your shot there anytime between 3:30 and 6:30. And the final one for the week will be Thursday, November 22nd from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Legion in Arnprior. AND IN SPORTS … In the CCHL on the weekend, the Carleton Place Canadians had two big games and came away with three of a possible four points against the #3 ranked Junior A team in Canada. On Friday, the Canadians lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Brockville Braves, then rebounded with a big win on Sunday posting a 3-2 win over the league’s top team. Zachary Tupker scored twice for Carleton Place yesterday while Ryland Mosley scored the game winner. On Friday, Cole Beckstead led the way with a pair of goals. Also on the weekend, the Pembroke Lumber Kings came up short in both of their games falling 6-2 to Rockland and 7-3 to Smiths Falls. Alex DiCarlo had a hat-trick for Pembroke against Smiths Falls and added one against Rockland.

In the CCHL-2 … the three local teams came up empty on the weekend. The Whitewater Kings lost 5-2 to Brockville … Winchester beat Renfrew 4-2 … and Arnprior dropped a 5-0 decision to Richmond. Andrew McIntyre led Renfrew with a goal and an assist while Reid Barber and Artyom Shiman scored for Whitewater.
