A Madawaska Valley Township man is now facing charges in connection to a domestic disturbance. On November 5th just after 10:30 in the morning, Killaloe OPP officers responded to a call and as a result of the investigation … they arrested and charged a 21-year-old man. He is now facing a charge of Domestic Forcible Confinement. He was released and will be in Killaloe Court on January 9th. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim. The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP will be taking part in the Festive RIDE campaign from November 23rd until January 2nd … looking to find those who are impaired or distracted while behind the wheel. This year police are partnering with Canada Blood Services and officers will be handing out festive cards at RIDE checks with messaging to drivers on the value of giving blood … and how you can be a donor and give the ultimate holiday gift, the gift of life.
The first of two free flu shot clinics in the Valley this week is set for today in Deep River at the library. That clinic runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Then, tomorrow, there’s another at the Pembroke Legion from 2 to 6. Please note, both of these clinics are by appointment only, so you need to call ahead to book a spot. On the high school basketball court, the Arnprior District High School senior girls’ team won their fourth straight Renfrew County championship by downing RCI 75-14. Sydney Moore led all scorers with 28 points and Grade 10 rookie Libby Hirst added 18. The Rapids are now off to the EOSSAA double-A championships in Kingston next week with a spot at the all-Ontario tournament in London on the line.
Today, the Opeongo Wildcats host the junior girls’ single-A EOSSAA basketball championships. Two local teams are taking part with Opeongo ranked #6 … and the RCI Raiders holding down the #4 seed.
Tomorrow and Friday, the senior girls’ single-A eastern Ontario championships are also being held at Opeongo with the host Wildcats ranked third and RCI seeded fourth.
