Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 12 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with overcoming resistance by choking, assault, and theft under $5,000. No other criminal offences were alleged.  If you or someone you know is living in or involved in an abusive relationship, police want you to know that help is available. You can contact Bernadette McCann House 24/7 for support, advice or the safety of a shelter … at 1-800-267-4930. The Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County is also available 24/7 for information and support … at 1-800-663-3060. .  You could also attend the emergency department of any hospital in Renfrew County and ask to speak to a member of the Assault Response Team. In emergencies police say you should call 9-1-1.

The Victoria Day holiday long weekend is upon us and it’s traditionally been associated with the start of summer. It’s a time where people are caught up in the excitement of outdoor activities after a long cold winter but the OPP wants to remind all travelers to put safety first and to follow the rules of the road and of the waterways. Officers will be out in full force this weekend to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable break and want people to be smart. That means no driving while distracted, make sure you wear your seatbelt, don’t drive aggressively and don’t climb behind the wheel of your vehicle or boat if you’re been taking drugs or drinking. The police will be watching.

In Greater Ottawa Fastball League action last night, the Kars Aces won 8-5 over the Ottawa Valley A’s in Carp. Brad Porter went the distance for the win for Kars. Ben Broek took the loss for Valley and had relief from Adam Rueckwald in the league’s last game of the week.

AND … in the NHL playoffs tonight … the Winnipeg Jets are in Vegas to face the Golden Knights in Game 4 of the West Final. Vegas leads that series 2-1 … with tonight’s game set for 8 o’clock. And last night … Tampa Bay came up with a 4-2 win in Washington … to tie the East Final at two games each.
