The Renfrew OPP received two separate sexual assault complaints in the past week including allegations from a teenage male that he was sexually assaulted by an adult male that he’d met on a social media site. Following a police investigation 56-year-old Michael Daly of Hastings Highland Township has been charged with sexual assault of a person under 16 sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching of a person under 16. He was released on a promise to appear and will be in Renfrew Court on May 30th. In the second separate report an adult female contacted police about being sexually assaulted in 2002. That investigation continues.

And Pembroke Mayor Michael LeMay – presented Algonquin College president Cheryl Jensen with   – The Key to the City –  in a special presentation on May 9th….In the city’s press release –  the presentation was said to be given in recognition of  Algonquin College Pembroke Campus 50 years of providing outstanding post-secondary training and education along with partnering with the City of Pembroke on the development of the waterfront and rehabilitation –  of its park and downtown.  Jamie Bramburger – Manager, of Student & Community Affairs had this to say about what the recognition means to the school.  (Insert sound byte)   The Key to the City presentation marked a special end to May 9th, which was officially designated “Pembroke Waterfront Campus of Algonquin College Day” in Pembroke.

Former Pembroke Lumber King Jim Montgomery will now be coaching in the NHL. Coming off a national title with the University of Denver … and five very successful years … Montgomery will now be the bench boss of the Dallas Stars. He’ll replace Ken Hitchcock. The Montreal native played one season in Pembroke scoring 53 goals and 107 points in 1988-89. He went on to a great college career starring at the University of Maine.

On the diamond tonight the Ottawa Valley A’s host the Quyon Flyers in Carp … in the final game of the opening week of the Greater Ottawa Fastball League action. That game gets underway at 8:30. Last night … Carp beat Stittsville 5-1 … with Matt McNish picking up the win over Kyle Olson.

AND … there’s one game in the NHL playoffs tonight as the Winnipeg Jets are in Nashville to face the Predators in Game 7 of that series. The winner tonight moves on to face Vegas in the Western Conference Final while the season ends for whoever comes out on the losing end. Game time is 8.
