Two Arnprior men are facing a number of charges after they were caught on video stealing from a local business. On March 16th … the two men entered The Source in Arnprior … and bought an item but as they were leaving the store … each grabbed several items … hid them … and left the store without paying. Once staff noticed the missing merchandise they reviewed security footage and called the OPP. The officer recognized the men and they were soon arrested and charged but they’re not only facing theft and possession of stolen property charges but when arrested they had drugs on them. The men … ages 31 and 50 … are looking at drug possession and breach of probation charges. They’ll be in Renfrew Court on May 2nd.
The OPP recently wrapped up its week long Distracted Driving Campaign. Police say motorists don’t seem to be understanding just how dangerous it is to not be paying attention to the road when behind the wheel. Officers with the Renfrew detachment laid 43 charges during the seven-day blitz. They say using Bluetooth is fine but it needs to be hands-free. If you have to make a call or fire off a text you must pull over somewhere that is safe. Distracted and inattentive driving is the leading cause of death on OPP patrolled roads in Ontario.
If you’re a Mississippi Mills resident you still have time to have your say in recreation around the region. The Town is currently collecting feedback from residents and business owners about Recreation and Culture Services within the municipality. The hope is to gain valuable insight into what changes the town should consider in an attempt to improve the service. The survey is confidential and will only take 10 minutes or less to complete. With the completion of this survey, you will be entered into a draw to win 1 of 2 prizes – a $25 gift certificate for Equator Coffee Roasters or a $25 gift certificate for Penny’s Fudge in Pakenham. Tomorrow … March 21st … will be the final day to complete the survey which you can find on the municipality’s website at mississippimills.ca
Despite the cold temperatures outsidem warm weather enthusiasts will be encouraged to know that today is the official first day of Spring. Otherwise named the Spring Equinox the word equinox comes from Latin words which literally means “equal night.” On the equinox, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world. With the new season here you’ll now be able to enjoy the increasing sunlight hours, with earlier dawns and later sunsets. Of note it looks as though the little cold spell we just had is now behind us. Starting tomorrow our daytime highs will be back in the positives. Maybe spring is truly about to spring.
