Ontario’s Government is taking steps to ensure sustainable wildlife populations with  an enhanced CWD prevention program and they are asking for your input. John Yakabuski, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry While said that it’s not yet in Ontario, but CWD was recently discovered in deer in Quebec, close to the Ontario border and has also been found in all six states bordering this province.  The Ministry is looking for input on a revised Ontario Chronic Wasting Disease Surveillance and Response Plan and possible changes to the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, which would make sure that the right mechanisms are in place to minimize the risk of CWD entering or spreading within Ontario.  You can view the plan and have your say on the MNR website until the 25th of July.

Chronic Wasting Disease is a progressive, fatal brain disease that mostly affects deer and elk – but can also affect moose and caribou. For more information you can visit the MNR’s website.
