the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP are searching an area of rapids on the Ottawa River in Whitewater Region Township last Friday after a male swimmer failed to return to shore. Members of the OPP, Whitewater Region Fire Department, Garrison Petawawa Fire Department and Renfrew County Paramedics responded and were assisted in the initial search by local professionals in the whitewater rafting community. Two helicopters with Forward-Looking Infrared technology were deployed to the area to assist in the search at the time but were met with negative results. The search continues.

Tuesday in Renfrew from 7am until 7pm watch for traffic controls starting at Hall Ave/Raglan St intersection moving North with the intent of reaching Renfrew W/Raglan intersection by end of day. This is for the purpose of cleaning and scoping sanitary sewers.

The Renfrew County Relay for Life took place at the Pembroke Memorial centre overnight ing over 92-thousand dollars…as 300 people participated…with the money going towards the fight against cancer. This was the first time that the relay was held indoors…and also the first time since 1999 that the event was held outside of Petawawa. A total of 4 million dollars total was collected nationwide for the Canadian Cancer Society’s signature event…which consists of a 6-hour walking marathon.

The Cheshire Cat Pub from the Fitzroy Harbour Men’s Fastball League won the “Harbour Ball” 12 team men’s fastball tournament this weekend in Fitzroy. There were eight league teams from the FHMFL plus teams representing Shawville, Bancroft, Carp and Ashton. The Pub defeated Shawville 10-2 in the finals. Father and son duo Jim and Shawn Ryan throw for the Cat, while Shawn Laframboise, James O’Brien and Lenny Burger were the chuckers for the team from the PQ.
The Ottawa Senators announced that the club has agreed to terms with defenceman Chris Wideman on a one year contract extension. The contract will carry an annual value of $1 Million for the 2018-19 season.
