The Renfrew OPP are looking for the person who was involved in a two-vehicle collision on Thursday evening and fled the scene. On May 31st around 6:45 p.m. a man was driving a pick-up truck on Black Donald Road … when an approaching car drove into his lane. The man had to drive into the ditch to avoid being hit but was struck by the car. The person driving the car stopped for a few moments then sped away eastbound towards Calabogie. Evidence seized at the scene indicated the car was burgundy or red in colour and may have been a Monte Carlo model. It sustained damage to the front bumper driver’s side headlight, signal light and front driver’s side fender. Anyone with information on the suspect or vehicle is asked to contact Sgt Bruce Sawbridge at the Renfrew OPP at 613-432-3211.


If you live around Mansfield-et-Pontefract and Fort Colounge  you may see soldiers in your neighbourhood  starting today. Personnel from Garrison Petawawa will be conducting training in the area of Davidson Mill … from today through to June 6th. Residents may notice military aircraft and vehicles … uniformed military personnel with weapons … and hear noises associated with explosives and personal weapons. Please note that from the 4th to the 5th … the training will occur during the night and into the early morning and residents may notice noises associated with explosives. AND … if you live in the Upper Ottawa Valley … Garrison Petawawa personnel will be training in Deep River and at the Rolphton Dam … on Thursday, June 7th. The military advises that all efforts will be made to ensure that disruption to all communities will be at a minimum.

Canadian Blood Services says there is a critical need for donations and every 60 seconds, someone in Canada needs blood. So if you’re interested in rolling up your sleeve and giving the Gift of Life … there are three opportunities around the Ottawa Valley coming up. The first blood donor clinic is Monday, June 11th at the Royal Canadian Legion in Eganville from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Then on Wednesday, June 13th … there is a clinic at the Nick Smith Centre in Arnprior where you have a chance to donate from 1:30 to 4 o’clock … and from 5 to 7:30. And on June 14th there is a clinic at the Almonte Civitan Club from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 5 to 8. AND IN SPORTS …

In the battle of the two unbeaten teams in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League last night … the Quyon Flyers beat the Micksburg Twins 10-5. Trevor Lahey had the win for the Flyers, with relief from Matt Greer. Matt McIntyre took the loss  and had relief from 17-year-old John Enright in his league debut. Lahey helped his own cause with a two-run homer and Dave Hobbs also hit a two-run shot for Quyon. Quinton Rook launched a three-run homer for the Twins. Tonight, Micksburg is back in action as they host West Carleton at 8 o’clock.

Smiths Falls’ Brooke Henderson has withdrawn from the US Open. The USGA made the official announcement via a tweet this morning … saying that due to personal reasons she has returned home to Canada to be with her family.
