The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP have arrested and charged a Pembroke woman in connection to a November break-in at a Mary Street residence. Sometime overnight between November 14th and 15th … the Pembroke home was entered while the homeowners were sleeping. A laptop … cellphones … and a purse and wallet with cash were among the items stolen. Following an investigation … a 31-year-old woman has been charged with possession of stolen property … fraud … and two counts of breach of probation. She will be back in court on February 6th to face the charges.

Police and Pembroke/Renfrew County Crime Stoppers are looking for the public’s help in solving a break, enter and theft in Laurentian Valley Township. Sometime between January 4th and 20th … someone broke into a seasonal residence and several outbuildings on Lubitz Road. Three generators and an off-road motorbike were stolen. The generators were a red Kawasaki 5500-watt … a 2500-wat red Honda … and a yellow 1500-watt. The motorbike was a Honda 125. If you have any information on this crime … you’re asked to call the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP … or Crime Stoppers.

It’s winter carnival season … and as a way to beat the winter blues, the 2018 Braeside carnival  is set for this Saturday February 3rd. The all-day event kicks off with an all-you-can-eat shanty breakfast at 7 a.m. and is followed by kids’ games and prizes a show from Little Ray’s Reptiles … public skating … music and many other fun events. The highlight is once again expected to be the men’s cake-baking and silent auction. Admission is free to all the events. In the CCHL-2 tonight … the Whitewater Kings are back in action … playing their fifth game in the last seven days. The Kings are on the road tonight … heading to Brockville to face the Tikis for an 8 o’clock start. AND … still with the Kings … forward Jacob McIntyre was named the league’s first star of the week … as he scored three times and had seven points in leading Whitewater to three wins. He’s tied for the team lead in points … with 59 in 44 games … and sits 10th in league scoring.
