The crazy weather continues in the Ottawa Valley as the region awoke to snow, freezing rain, along with lightning and thunder. And for thousands of people, a power outage this morning left them more than a little chilly on a windy morning. So … what is coming next? Well this afternoon the temperature will begin to drop and drizzle and freezing drizzle will continue. And this will be mixed with snow up to 2 more centimetres tonight with the mercury sliding from around zero all the way to minus-13. So officials are asking people to be extra careful on the roads and parking lots and driveways as slippery conditions will persist throughout the day and into the evening hours.
Police are looking for a parole offender who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant and is unlawfully at large. Kyle Keon … age 29 … is known to frequent the Pembroke … Renfrew … and Ottawa areas so police are asking people in the area to be on the lookout and contact them if you see him. Keon is described as Caucasian … 5-foot-10 … 190 pounds … with a skull tattoo on his right forearm and a skull with horns and tentacles on his left forearm. A quantity of drugs and weapons including cocaine and meth was recently seized when police executed search warrants on two Renfrew residences. On January 12th, police visited an Argyle Street South residence and during the search, seized coke, marijuana, cash, drug paraphernalia and three weapons including one that was prohibited. A 44-year-old man and 42-year-old woman are looking at numbers drug and weapons charges. That same day, police also hit a home on Plaunt Street South and seized methamphetamine, cocaine, and cash. A Renfrew man and woman ages 33 and 34 are charged with drug possession and possession with purpose of trafficking. And breach of probation. All were released from custody and will be in Renfrew court in the near future.
The Renfrew OPP and Crime Stoppers are looking for the public’s help in solving the theft of a truck in McNab-Braeside Township. Sometime overnight between January 17th and 18th someone stole a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel quad cab from a garage at a home on Usborne Street. The 4×4 is white in colour and when it was taken … had Ontario licence plate 479 1WX. It has black leather interior black rims with shiny hubcaps and a Fisher brand plow harness. A Stihl (steel) chainsaw was also taken from the garage. If you have any information you are asked to call police … or Crime Stoppers.

The weekly Canadian Junior Hockey League national Jr A rankings are in for this week and the Carleton Place Canadians are holding on to the #1 spot. The Canadians were the #1 team in the nation for four weeks just before the Christmas break are back in top spot for the second straight week. And the only other CCHL team in the national top-20 is now ranked #5 … as the Ottawa Jr Senators slip one place in the rankings. Both teams have been the class of the CCHL this season as Carleton Place currently sits in first place with 84 points and are the first team in the league to hit 40 wins. Ottawa has 78 points. The next closest team is Kanata who are 22 points behind the Jr Senators in the standings.
There is one game in the CCHL-2 tonight … as the Whitewater Kings head down the highway to Ottawa where they will face the Canadians. Ottawa is second in the Martin Division with 53 points … The Kings are fifth in the Richardson with 40. Puck drop at Earl Armstrong Arena is 7:20.
