Two shoplifters didn’t get far after walking out of Value Village in Pembroke as police caught up to them not far from the Pembroke Street West store. OPP officers responded quickly to the call on January 12th and arrested two women who were on foot … just down the road. They had stolen a number of items including clothing and personal accessories. The women, one age 37 and the other 36, are both from Pembroke and have both been charged with theft under $5,000 with one also facing a breach of probation charge. Both will be in Pembroke court next month.

Mississippi Mills Council held their first meeting of 2018 on January 16th during which they accepted the resignation of long-time CAO Diane Smithson who has been hired as the CAO in Carleton Place. On Tuesday, councillors commended Smithson on her achievements and commitment to the community. She has been CAO in the town since 1998 and her last day in Mississippi Mills will be March 2nd. In order to ensure continuity until a full-time CAO is hired Clerk Shawna Stone will be the acting Chief Administrative Officer. The process to find the ideal full-time candidate will get underway very soon.

Lock it or lose it. This is the advice from the Killaloe OPP after responding to several calls of parked vehicles being entered on Augsburg Road in Bonnechere Valley Township. The vehicles were rifled through with loose change and electronics being reported stolen. Police are reminding people that would-be thieves are always looking for opportunities, so make sure when you park your vehicle you roll up the windows  lock it and pocket the keys park in a well-lit area, if possible and never leave any valuables in plain view.

Canadian Blood Services says there is a critical need for donations and every 60 seconds, someone in Canada needs blood. So if you’re interested in rolling up your sleeve and giving the Gift of Life there is an opportunity to do just that next week in Renfrew. A blood donor clinic is set up for the Renfrew Legion on Tuesday, January 23rd and it will run from 1 to 7 p.m. Drop-ins are always accepted but you are encouraged to make an appointment by visiting … or 1-888-2-DONATE.


In the CCHL-2 … there’s hockey action in the Valley tonight … as the Whitewater Kings host the division leading Carleton Place Jr Canadians at the Cobden Arena. The Kings sit in fourth in the division … 15 points back of Carleton Place. Puck drop in this one is at 8 o’clock. Arnprior Packers are also on the ice tonight as they’re on the road to face Ottawa West. Game time is 7:15 at the Barbara Ann Scott Arena.

There’s also CCHL action tonight … as the Pembroke Lumber Kings are on the road travelling to Cornwall to face the Colts. Pembroke trails Cornwall by 7 points in the standings and have three games in hand.
