Police in the Valley have launched a massive investigation after hundreds of mailboxes were smashed or stolen last weekend. Sometime between February 2nd and 5th … vandals targeted mailboxes in McNab-Braeside … Horton … Admaston-Bromley … and Greater Madawaska townships. The OPP say several suspects have been identified and charges are pending. The investigation is being led by the Community Street Crime Unit. If you were a victim and have not yet reported it, you are asked to call the OPP.

Mississippi Mills council will be presenting a series of open houses next month to provide information to local property owners who may be affected by proposed changes to the town’s Community Official Plan. The public will have the opportunity to review and ask questions about the information and material including a copy of the current proposed plan with representatives of the Municipality in an informal setting. The first will be in Almonte on March 21st and the second will be in Clayton on March 27th. On March 28th the open house will be in Pakenham with the final one set for March 29th again in Almonte. OPP officers from Arnprior and Renfrew investigated 10 domestic disputes during the past week. As result of an investigation, one male was charged with criminal harassment. No other criminal offences were alleged.  But police say that if you or someone you know is living in … or involved in an abusive relationship, help is available. You can contact Bernadette McCann House 24/7 for support …  advice … or the safety of a shelter … at 1-800-267-4930. The Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County is also available 24/7 for information and support at 1-800-663-3060. In emergencies call 9-1-1.


The playoff pairings are now set in high school boys’ basketball … as the junior and senior regular seasons wrapped up yesterday. The playoffs get underway Thursday with the quarter-final games. In junior … Arnprior will host Valour … and RCI will head to Fellowes. The winners of those games will face either first place Bishop Smith … or second place St. Joe’s. In senior … Arnprior will head to Pembroke to play Bishop Smith … and St. Joe’s hosts Mackenzie. The winners will then take on either top-ranked Fellowes … or Opeongo … who finished second.

Junior results from yesterday included a 75-41 RCI win over Opeongo with Crawford Leavoy leading the Raiders with 14 points. Ayden Leturneau scored 14 points in to help Bishop Smith beat Arnprior 64-33 while Fellowes downed Jeanne Lajoie 56-22 … St Joe’s beat Valour 46-25 … and Mackenzie downed Madawaska Valley 55-20. In senior action, Malcolm Wren hit for 19 points in leading Opeongo past RCI 40-31 while Eric Plezak had 27 points as Bishop Smith beat Arnprior 59-55. Justin Smith had 21 for the Rapids in that one. And Tyler Blackburn threw down 11 points in leading St Joe’s over 67-27. Other scores included Fellowes downing Jeanne Lajoie 76-24 and Mackenzie beating Madawaska Valley 64-32.
