Two schools in Lanark County were placed on lockdown Wednesday – after Lanark opp officers responded to a call about a man carrying a crossbow in the village of Lanark. The schools were in lockdown for a brief time due to the location and behaviour of the man – Maple Grove Public School and Scared Heart of Jesus Catholic School were initially placed Lockdown mode, however The status of the schools were modified to Hold and Secure mode shortly after the arrival of officers at the scene. the Hold and Secure was lifted at 10:37am. No one was injured or threatened during the course of the incident and the Investigation revealed that the man was picked up in a passenger vehicle a short time later and left the scene shortly before the arrival of officers. The investigation is active and ongoing.
The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP have arrested and charged a second Pembroke man in relation to a theft at the Mac’s Convenience store back in November on Pembroke Street East in Pembroke. At the time of his arrest the suspect, who stole candy from the store, was found to be in possession of several types of drugs and drug paraphernalia. George Thomas BELL, age 33 of Pembroke, is charged with several charges including theft under $5000 – two counts of Failure to comply with recognizance , Possession of methamphetamine, hydromorphone, lorazepam, nabilone, cannabis resin,and cannabis marihuana – all for the purpose of trafficing – He was held for a bail hearing and released on a recognizance of bail – he’ll appear in court on January 9, 2018 in Pembroke.
Heather Bell is described as a Caucasion female, 49 years of age, 5 foot 11 inches tall – 251 lbs with brown hair and hazel eyes. She has a tattoo on her neck with the word ROD. She also has a rose tattooed on her right shin, and a butterfly on her left shin. She is currently serving a two year and seven month sentence for Possession of a Narcotic For the Purpose of Trafficking and Failure To Comply Probation Order. She is know to frequent various cities and towns around the province, including Bancroft. In the CCHL-2 … the Renfrew Timberwolves fell behind early last night … and despite a hat-trick from leading scorer Luka Marinic … they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Embrun Panthers. Renfrew trailed 3-1 after the first period … and pulled within a goal on Marinic’s second of the night … but two quick goals by Embrun put the game out of reach. Dane Brumm got the start in goal for the ‘Wolves, and after allowing 5 goals … gave way to Ethan Lapenskie who was perfect … kicking aside all 13 shots he saw … earning the game’s third star. Marinic was the first star … as his three goals give him 26 on the season … tying him with Carleton Place’s Ryland Mosley for the league lead.
AND … both local CCHL teams are in action tonight … with the Pembroke Lumber Kings heading to Cornwall to face the Colts at 7:30 … and the Carleton Place Canadians in Kanata to take on the Lasers. Puck drop in that one is also 7:30.
