The Killaloe OPP continue to investigate a fatal single vehicle collision which occurred on Sunday August 5th. Police say that at approximately 2:30 pm, members of the Killaloe Detachment of the OPP responded to a fatal single vehicle motorcycle collision on Round Lake Road, near Tramore Road in the Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards. The driver and lone occupant of a motorcycle lost control and entered the ditch. He was transported to hospital by ambulance with life threatening injuries, and died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. The deceased has been identified as 52 yr. old Steven MAYHEW of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Renfrew Detachment of the OPP arrested and charged a male after a break and enter was reported in Renfrew Friday afternoon, August 3rd. Officers responded to the break and enter at 1:36 pm on Opeongo Road in Renfrew. The victim had returned to her home and located a male inside her residence. The suspect fled on foot and was arrested shortly after by police. Officers located the suspect at a residence on Airth Boulevard in Renfrew. He had his bail hearing on August 4th, but not much else is known as of right now.
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers will be helping children learn the joys of fishing this summer during the annual Kin Club of Pembroke Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Derby on Saturday August 11th. Children will join local Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers to go fishing from 9 am until 12 noon at the Pembroke Marina Breakwater. The Derby is free to children 12 and under, the catch and release derby is hosted by the Pembroke Kin Club and will feature giveaways and prizes for the largest fish caught in various age categories. Young anglers are asked to bring their own rods, reels and bait as well as an adult buddy. The event is sponsored by Fishing Forever and chair Bob Izumi, says that there is nothing that puts a smile on a kid’s face faster than catching a fish. Smiths Falls’ Brooke Henderson finished the Women’s British Open in a tie for 11th place … her best-ever finish at one of the LPGA’s major tournaments. She entered the final round at 8-under par … in a tie for seventh … but finished with a round of 74 … to slip a bit down the leaderboard. One of the highlights of the tournament for the 20-year-old golf phenom was a hole-in-one during the second round.
AND … there’s one game on the Greater Ottawa Fastball League schedule tonight as the Stittsville 56ers travel to Fitzroy Harbour to face West Carleton Electric. First pitch at the community centre is set for 8 o’clock.
Also on the fastball schedule this week … Carp hosts the Quyon Flyers for a double-header in Manotick on Wednesday night with the first game going at 7 and the nightcap at 9. Also on Wednesday, Kars is in Kemptville. The lone Thursday night game has the Micksburg Twins in Carp to take on the Ottawa Valley A’s. That one is set for 8 o’clock.
