3 C flour

4 ½ tsp. baking powder

¾ tsp. cream of tartar

¾ tsp. salt

¾ C butter

1 egg

¾ C milk

2 ½ tbsp. white sugar

Sift together the flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, salt and sugar.  Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal.  Beat the egg lightly and add the milk.  Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and mix.  Knead lightly on a lightly floured board.  Roll the dough to 1/2ʺ thickness.  Cut into circles.  Place on a cookie sheet and bake at 450°F for about 12 – 15 minutes.
