LUMBERJACK LOAF

2 C chopped dates

2 C chopped apples

2 tsp. baking soda

2 C boiling water

1 C butter

2 C white sugar

2 eggs

3 tsp. vanilla

½ C orange juice

3 C flour

Pour the boiling water over the dates, apples and baking soda and cool.  Cream the butter and sugar.  Add the eggs, vanilla and orange juice.  Add the flour and stir only until moistened.  Fold in the fruit mixture.  Pour into 2 greased 9X5X3ʺ loaf pans and bake at 350°F for about 1 – 1 ½ hours.
