In Jr A hockey the Pembroke Lumber Kings have their home opener this weekend, set for Sunday night, when the defending champion Carleton Place Canadians visit the PMC. Puck drop is set for 7 o’clock. Pembroke is also in action tonight on the road in Gloucester, while Carleton Place hosts Kanata.

Still with Jr A hockey the Lumber Kings swung a trade this week, sending Jordan Larson to the Gloucester Rangers, along with two draft picks and a Player Development Fee, for centre Alexandre Boivin. The 19-year-old Boivin played last year for the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL. Pembroke parts company with Larson, a high-scoring centre who has played two seasons with the Lumber Kings.

In Jr B hockey, the season opens this weekend with Renfrew hosting the EOJHL Showcase on Saturday.

One game will be played tonight in Perth with the Blue Wings hosting the Renfrew Timberwolves.

Saturday’s games at the Mat-te-way Activity Centre include: Ottawa vs Arnprior at 9:30 … Gatineau and Almonte at noon … Ottawa West vs Stittsville at 2:30 … Clarence and Perth at 5 o’clock … and Metcalfe and Renfrew at 7:30.
