The Arnprior Regional Hospital is all about better health, and now that means when it comes to food choices for staff, doctors, visitors, patients and volunteers.
The hospital has set goals to make sure the healthy choice in food is the easy choice.
As one of 15 hospitals taking part in the Champlain Healthy Foods in Hospitals program, the ARH is the first to reach the Bronze designation, one year ahead of the target date.
Among the changes implemented: vegetables, fruits and while grain bread products are more readily available, deep fryers and deep fried foods have been removed, and sodium, along with portion sizes of high-calorie beverages have been cut back.
According to hospital officials, bronze is just the first step and work is underway to take the next step — going for silver.
