A Good Samaritan was killed just east of Perth Wednesday evening (Feb. 25) after he stopped along County Road 43 in Drummond-North Elmsley Township to help a car that had driven into the ditch, and was stuck in the snow.
Thirty-eight-year-old Eric Desjardins of Perth was struck by a passing pick-up truck as he was trying to lend assistance to the person in the ditch. He was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he died of his injuries.
The driver of the truck, a 51-year-old Perth area man, was not injured.
Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
The road was closed until the early hours of Thursday morning as police were on scene investigating.
