With a federal election set for this fall, voters in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke may have a very familiar name on the ballot.
Former MP Hec Clouthier is seriously considering running as an Independent candidate for the third time.
Clouthier was the area’s Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2000, succeeding long-time MP Len Hopkins. At that point, Clouthier represented the Liberal Party, but ran as an Independent candidate in the last election in 2011. He finished second in the polls with more than 9,000 votes.
He also ran as an Independent in 1993.
Clouthier has told the local media this week that he is “leaning towards running.”
