A recently retired soldier from Petawawa was one of three people struck by an SUV on Lake Street in Pembroke on Sunday night, and as a result 57-year-old Ernie Hall has died because of the injuries he sustained.
The Lanark native had served 39 years in the military, retiring last year. He passed away Monday night in hospital.
The night before he was leaving the Pembroke Memorial Centre after attending a hockey game, when he was hit by a Toyota RAV-4 driven by Martial Laverdue, age 38, of Pembroke.
Laverdue was subsequently charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
Funeral arrangements for Chief Warrant Officer (retired) Ernie Hall have yet to be finalized.
