Det.-Insp. Chris Nicholas, a former Arnprior OPP officer, was honoured by the Governor General yesterday with The Order of Merit of the Police Forces.

Nicholas was the lead investigator, and one of the key people responsible for the arrest and conviction of former Canadian Forces Colonel Russell Williams. Nicholas headed up the joint investigation team, which included 12 detectives and a forensic identification unit.

Upon receiving recognition from the Right Honourable David Johnston, Nicholas said he was proud and emotional, and happy his wife and mother were on hand to share the award with him.

Nicholas was a constable in Arnprior from 1989 through 1994.
