There is cold. And then there is COLD.
This morning temperatures in the Ottawa Valley dipped to -37C with the wind chill, prompting Environment Canada to issue an extreme cold warning for the region. These warnings are issued when cold temperatures and wind chill poses a health threat, including a very real risk of frostbite and hypothermia.
As the cold front moves across the area, the mercury will hover around -35C throughout the day and into the evening, and may even drop to -38 overnight with the wind chill.
Health officials are telling everyone to bundle up in layers and cover all exposed skin, and only venture outside if you must.
If you have pets or animals, also take care to make sure they are inside during this extreme weather.
