Renfrew Hospice – Thursday March 3rd. 11:00am—12:00pm

Renfrew Hospice staff and volunteers work hard to provide end of life care to our loved ones. But, what does that actually mean? What services do they provide? Let’s honour their difficult but rewarding work by listening in and learning together.

Coping & Resources Interactive Workshop – Thursday March 10th 10:30—11:30am
Presenter: Sarah Calvin, Program Lead, Eastern Ontario & Francophone Communities

If you support someone in need, feel anxious and overwhelmed with your caregiving
responsibilities, you’re not alone. There are 3.3. million caregivers in Ontario – ordi-
nary people who provide physical and emotional support to a family member, part-
ner, friend or neighbour, without pay. Learn about the ways caregiving has become
more difficult through the COVID-19 pandemic, strategies and resources to help you manage care for another, while also taking care of yourself, and OCO’s free programs and services to support caregivers.

Big Emotions – Thursday March 10th.  1:00—2:00pm

Sometimes life can be overwhelming and we don’t know how to move forward. Learn coping strategies for dealing with the feelings we don’t like feeling and find strategies to heal through your experiences.

Caregiver Support During the Pandemic – Thursday March 10th.   2:00—3:00pm
Presenter: Angie Lepine, Community Geriatric Coordinator, Renfrew Victoria Hospita

Many studies have shown that caregiving compromises health and over half of care- givers show signs of clinical depression. Reluctance in asking for and accepting help is a major barrier to getting necessary respite and support. What does taking care of yourself mean, why is it so hard to do, how do you do it?

 Compassion Fatigue – Tuesday March 15th 10:00—11:00am

Constantly caring about others needs can be tiring, learn how to make time for what you need while balancing the caregiver role.

Dementia Care & Resources – Tuesday March 15th  2:00 —3:00pm
Presenter: Caitlin Brydges, Dementia Care Coach, The Dementia Society
Caitlin will speak about dementia and the various types as well as its prevalence. Caring for a loved one with dementia and local resources that may help in your efforts will also be covered.

Future Planning – Tuesday March 29th   10:00—11:00am
Presenter: Anna Marie Ashick, Social Worker, Pembroke Regional Hospital
This discussion will be on future planning, and how to have those hard discussions. From when to bring up moving to a different environment like a retirement home or long term care, or how to talk with your loved ones about their goals of care and future wishes. We will look at how to accomplish these things- not just emotionally but with information about the practical steps.

Caregiving and Mental Health –  – Wednesday March 30th 10:00—11:00am
Presenter: Clayo Laanamets, Program Lead, Mental Health, OCO
Caregiving is hard and COVID-19 imposes new challenges. Listen, and ask questions, about mental health, stress and caregiver burnout. If you can squeeze it in, take a moment to learn a little, check in with yourself and the state of your mental health.
