About the event

The Settlement at the Third Chute

Almost 200 years ago, in search of freedom and lands to cultivate, the first white settlers came to the area known as the Third Chute and, latterly, Douglas.

On Saturday, July 29th, at 2:00 pm, the Bromley Historical Society is pleased to have Lauretta Rice speak on those early settlers, who included James Rice and Catherine (Power) Rice from Waterford, Ireland, in 1833. The talk, which is free to the public, will take place in the Old Town Hall, 498 Micksburg Road, Osceola.

Mrs. Rice was a teacher and also the Clerk for the former Bromley Township. She is well known as a passionate local historian and genealogist. The Rice family farm has been in existence for 176 years. She will bring her in-depth knowledge, family photographs, and her communication skills to the presentation.

Light refreshments will be served after the talk when attendees gather to chat and reminisce.
