Renfrew Reeve Peter Emon was sworn in Wednesday as the Warden of Renfrew County for a third term.

In his opening remarks after receiving the Chain of Office, Emon said the further twinning of Highway 17 is “absolutely essential” for future expansion in the County and said that putting pressure on both levels of senior government and emphasizing the importance of highway expansion is paramount.

He also stressed that Canadian Nuclear Laboratories is vital to the region and said the County will lobby to make sure the Federal Government realizes its importance to the Ottawa Valley.

Bonnechere Valley Mayor Jennifer Murphy and Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet moved and seconded Emon’s nomination. He was acclaimed.

In neighbouring Lanark County, long-time Tay Valley Township Reeve Keith Kerr was also sworn in as Warden on Wednesday. Kerr follows Beckwith Reeve Richard Kidd who did not seek re-election for the top spot around the county council table. Perth Mayor John Fenik nominated Kerr who was acclaimed.
