Eganville’s Melissa Bishop has shown she is ready for the Rio Summer Olympics next month, as she locked up her spot Sunday with a big win in the women’s 800 metres at the Canadian Olympic Trials in Edmonton.
And she set a new meet record along the way, finishing more than four full seconds ahead of the field in a time of 1:59.32.
The 27-year-old is among the medal favourites heading into her second Olympic Games, after setting a Canadian record and winning the silver medal at last year’s world championships in Beijing.
Bishop has dedicated this season, and her runs in Rio, to her ailing coach Dennis Fairall.
