With her sights set on a medal at the Rio Summer Olympics, Eganville’s Melissa Bishop is coming off a career year on the world circuit, and has received a major award for her efforts.
The 27-year-old has earned Canadian Track Athlete of the Year honours, handed out by Athletics Canada.
Bishop capped off her season with a silver medal in the 800 metres at the World Championships in Beijing, and broke the long-standing Canadian record along the way. She also broke the national indoor record twice in two days in February, en route to victories in Ireland and Scotland.
The announcement was made Thursday by Athletics Canada.
