The OPP’s Festive RIDE results are in and the number of drinking and driving offences are up around the Ottawa Valley.
In the Killaloe Detachment area there was an increase in Criminal Code Driving offences compared to a year ago. This season, the Killaloe OPP issued five warning suspensions and charged seven drivers with alcohol-related offences. During last year’s RIDE program, two people were given suspensions, and two drivers were charged.
In the Upper Ottawa Valley, the OPP charged 12 people with alcohol-related driving offences this season, compared to eight during last year’s campaign. And they issued eight driving suspensions this year. Last year only two suspensions were handed out.
In the Renfrew detachment area, two people were charged and three people had their licences suspended. No stats from last year were available.
Overall in the East OPP Region, the number of charges being laid in this year’s RIDE campaign was down from 116 to 87 compared to last year, while the number of suspensions was up from 96 to 105.
