Base:
½ C butter
1 C brown sugar
2 egg yolks
1 ½ C flour
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
Topping:
2 egg whites, beaten stiffly
1 C brown sugar
½ C chopped dates
½ C chopped cherries
½ C chopped walnuts
½ C coconut
Base: combine the ingredients and press into a greased 9ʺ pan.
Topping: add the brown sugar to the stiffly beaten egg whites. Fold in the remaining ingredients.
Spread over the base. Bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes. Cool completely before cutting.
