1 C dates, cut fine

1 C boiling water

¾ C brown sugar

2 tbsp. butter

1 egg, beaten

1 ½ C flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. cream of tartar

½ C chopped walnuts

½ C candied cherries, chopped

Pour the boiling water over the dates and let stand for 10 minutes.

Blend the brown sugar, butter & egg together and add to the date mixture.  Combine the dry ingredients, walnuts and cherries and stir into the date mixture and blend well.  Spread the batter in a greased loaf pan.  Bake for 45 – 60 minutes at 350°F.
